Homework Policy
Marpool School Home Learning
Thank you for all your replies to our questionnaires we have collated all the information from children, parents and staff and are responding to what you have asked for. There will be two pieces of more formal home learning activities sent home each week. One English and one maths, this will be related to what the children have been learning that week. In addition to this we will be encouraging reading at home and an evening of mental maths skills.
All home learning activities will have structure or guidance for you as parents and carers to follow. Home learning is, as it states, learning for home; we will look at work but not mark it in the detailed way we mark school learning. Maths activities should where possible be marked at home, offering quick feedback and ensuring children understand the task asked of them.
As a pupil please try your best and think about the school learning you have been doing as this will help your home learning. Look after and be proud of your work bringing your home learning to school when asked.
As parents and carers please support your child with the home learning we are sending home and comment on the learning completed especially in the reading record books.
As a school we will encourage home learning; checking homework and reading records weekly.

A ‘project’ style home learning activity will come home once a term for the older children. Useful homework hints:
- Where possible create a routine so that homework is completed at the same time and place.
- Encourage children to talk about their activity and what they are learning.
- Use a pencil or blue pen to complete homework activities.
- Encourage children to be proud of their presentation by using their best handwriting, using a ruler to underline and/or draw straight lines etc.
- Ideas to support maths and English can be found at the back of this book
Homework works best when it is a partnership between home and school and we appreciate your support with ensuring children complete their homework on time. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher. Thank you for your continued support in ensuring ‘Every child will have confidence in their own self-worth and an aspiration to achieve.’
