Have your voice heard!

Ofsted has launched ‘Parent View’, a new online questionnaire that will allow parents and carers to give their views on their child’s school at any time of the year.
Covering over 22,000 schools across England, the 12- question survey will help other parents as they make important choices about their child’s education and provide Ofsted with information about schools that will help inform priorities for inspection.
The questions were carefully chosen to cover those issues that parents told Ofsted are the most important to them.
They are also designed to provide Ofsted with the information to support decisions about inspection and will give headteachers a direct route into gathering the views of their parent group.

A Note to Parents and Guardians

Please can you ensure that all children arrive in School ready for when it opens at 8.40am. All children should be in class by 8.45am, otherwise they are missing part of their learning experience. Any children arriving after 8.45am will be marked as ‘Late’. Any children arriving after the registration has been taken will be marked as ‘Unauthorised’.

Meals will be charged at £2.00 per meal paid daily or £10.00 for the week, which still remains 10p cheaper per meal than Devon Catering Services.
Payments for school dinners must be made on the day or in advance. If payment is not received on time we may not be able to provide a meal for your child.
Sometimes due to unavoidable circumstances we may need to make changes to our menu at short notice.

Friday 27th January 8.30 am to 2.30 pm

The MSA are holding a 50p Book bring & buy sale in the music room on
Friday 27th January, during the school day for our pupils.

Children are asked to take part by bringing books to school on Friday.
The donated books will then be priced and placed on sale for between 10p and 50p.

During the day children who have brought money to school will have a chance to visit the stall and spend their 50p.

Please leave your books at the table in the playground on your way into school.

Welcome Back & Happy New Year!

I hope that 2012 will be as productive and successful as last year.

Attendance

It is vital that children spend as much time as possible in school. Being at school is important for a childs social, emotional and educational development. For those parents whose childs attendance falls below 95%, they are very likely to be called in to discuss attendance with Mrs Pattison and the Devon Education Welfare Officer. Failure to attend school can result in fines for the parents. Please help us to help your child.
If your child is unable to attend, the school must be contacted by 9am to let us know.

School Uniform

One of our new year drives, as per the text message, is to ensure that children are wearing the correct school uniform. This is :
• Logo polo shirt and jumper/cardigan
• Black school trousers/skirt

• Black school shoes
Fashion trousers/skirts and leggings are not acceptable.
With regards to jewellery and accessories stud earrings or sleepers may be worn. Watches may also be worn, but remain the responsibility of the child. No other jewellery should be worn.
Hair bands and hair accessories should be plain. Please ensure nail varnish and fancy hair bands are saved for the weekend.

New Starter Photographs

The photographer will be in school on Monday 16th January 2012 from 9am. If your child does not attend the Monday morning session, please feel free to bring them to the school hall. If your child missed the last set of photographs, they are also welcome to have their photograph taken at this time.

Parents Coffee Mornings

These take place on the 1st Tuesday of every month between 9.00am and 10.am in the Community Room.
Everyone is welcome to come and have a drink and a chat in a relaxed, informal environment. The next meetings will be: February 7th 2012 March 6th 2012

Dear Parents & Friends,

A big thank you to everyone who has supported all our fundraising events since September. So far this year we have raised a fabulous £3,882.53 for our school and have bought a maths mat for every class, new dictionaries for KS2, items to help with role play, multicultural and scientific learning in the FSU, and funds to create a new larger fox proof chicken run. We hope you will continue to help and support us in 2012.

Recycle your unwanted gifts and Christmas cards

Profits at our events are greatly increased by the donation of items. Therefore if you have any unwanted gifts we are always delighted to receive them. We are currently looking for chocolates, biscuits and bottles of wine or spirits for Bingo prizes plus anything suitable for any raffles.
There is also a box in reception to recycle your Christmas cards.

Events coming up for your diary

Textile Recycling Thursday 26th January
Next week every child will be bring home a Funds4School bag for you and your friends and neighbours to recycle clothing, shoes, belts, handbags, towels, sheets and curtains. Please return the bags to school on Thursday 26th January. The MSA will receive 50p for every kilo we collect. Extra bags are available from the office.

50p Book Bring & Buy Sale Friday 27th January
The return of this popular event which will take place during the school day.
A great way to refresh your book shelves and inspire reading.

Friday 3rd February Bingo, Great fun for all the family.
Doors open at 6pm and it’s Eyes down at 6.30pm

NEARLY NEW UNIFORM Monday 6th & Tuesday 7th February
Our stall will be in the playground (weather permitting) with PE kit items priced at just 50p, Marpool school uniform priced at 75p for polo tops, skirts, trousers and dresses, £1 for sweatshirts and cardigans and £2 for coats. If you have any good quality outgrown school uniform that we could sell on the stall, including Community College, please bring it to the school reception. Thank you.

Message from Mrs Pattison

I am very proud of all the hard work and perseverance the children and staff of Marpool have shown this term. There has been some excellent progress towards targets set and I look forward to seeing this progress continuing in the new year.
In order that ‘every child will have confidence in their own self worth and an aspiration to achieve’, school needs to be a place where our families feel welcome and children want to come to learn and enjoy.
I truly believe that this is the case.

I would like to wish all of our staff and families a very merry Christmas and best wishes for 2012.

I look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday 4th January 2012 for the first day of school.

6.00–7.30pm – Ticket Only – £1 per adult, starts at 6pm. A chance to enjoy the community spirit of Christmas with some festive singing and nativity, followed by mince pies and mulled wine. Tickets still available from the office.

Any parents that have not ordered a Christmas lunch for their child need to inform the office by Friday 9th December. This includes any children that are entitled to a Free School Meal.

MARPOOL MARKET Thursday 8th December 6 to 8 p.m.

STALLS- ITEMS REQUIRED

Preparations for the Marpool Market are reaching the final stages. A lot of the Market’s profit comes from the donation of goods to the stalls and we hope every family will support us by donating at least one thing.
Please leave items for the Hamper & Grand Draw, Bottle, Cans and Packets Tombolas or our Book, Toy and Bric A Brac stalls in our collection box in the main reception area. Plants and those delicious home made cakes and sweets can be left in the office on the day (named tins will be returned to you after the event). All money raised will benefit your children and your contributions are needed and gratefully received.

HELPERS NEEDED

This is a major event and many hands make light work, especially with setting up between 3.15 and 4 p.m. So if you can stay, if only for 15 minutes, please help us.
We also need volunteers to help us run all the activities, games and stalls we have planned. No experience necessary . Please see Denise Keywood.

CHRISTMAS DRAW.

You will have received your allocation of Draw Tickets to sell. We have a wonderful selection of prizes and hope that you will support us by selling your tickets.
Please return counterfoils, cash and requests for more tickets to your child’s class teacher by Thursday 1st December. Your help in selling tickets is much appreciated.

CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS SQUARES

Christmas Squares will be on sale in each class from next Monday 28th November until Thursday 8th December.
For just 10p each, you get to choose a badge and you might win a prize—if you pick the lucky square.

Strike Action

The school will be closed on Wednesday 30th November 2011 due to industrial action. Should this change with final negotiations, we will inform you by text.

Movember – change of date

Children are invited to come into school on Tuesday 29th November 2011 with a drawn on or face painted moustache, with a small donation for male cancer charities.

KS2 Free Music Sessions

Please come along to Exmouth Music Projects Monday Club on 28th November and 5th December from 4pm – 5pm for a free session.

Mrs Hendy and pupils from the ‘Made By Marpool’ craft club will be selling Christmas tree decorations and bookmarks which have been handmade by the club members. Please come along on the day to support us.
Also I am asking if you could save all of your corks and ribbons over the Christmas/New year period for use in future projects.

Design a cake for Children in Need – Friday 18th November

This years’ ‘Design a Cake’ competition is based on a character or book by Dick King-Smith. Money raised will be split between Children in Need and the school, for the creation of story sacks.
The competition is open to everyone, so Mums and Dads the challenge is on to beat the teachers. All cake entries need to be brought to the school hall on Friday morning. The hall will be open from 8.30am. During the day, all children will have the opportunity to judge the cakes. The top 3 winning cakes will be raffled during the afternoon. All other cakes will be auctioned after school in the school hall.
Raffle tickets will be on sale in the playground on Thursday 17th and Friday 18th before school and children can also buy tickets in school on Friday. Raffle tickets are priced at 50p a strip.

National Fame for Christmas Squares

The winter edition of the national PTA magazine has a feature on our Christmas Squares on page 55. This can be viewed on the website www.pta.org.uk

Congratulations!

Congratulations to all the play leaders and buddies who have successfully completed their training and are ready to make a difference to our playtimes.
Look out for them at lunchtimes wearing their caps.

Reading Workshop

It was lovely to see so many of you engaging with your childs learning at our recent reading workshop. We hope you are still managing to find some special time with your child to enjoy reading books and on that note, thank you to everyone who has purchased books at the book fair, which this year has taken a record amount.

Governors Election

Letters for governors election should have been received this week. Please ensure you send in your vote by 14th November 2011.

Mo-Vember

Mr Tolman-May, Mr Boatman, Mr Bennington 
and Mr Tomlin are taking part in the
Mo-Vember challenge, which involves growing a moustache for the month of November.
They are raising money for male cancer charities, a sponsor form is in the office.
Children will be invited to take part on Wednesday 30th November, by coming into school with a drawn on/face painted fancy moustache along with a suggested donation of 50p. Face paints will be available in school – more details to follow!

PE Kits

PE kits need to be brought into school and left in school! Please can you ensure that your child has indoor and outdoor kit.

Winter Clothing

Please can you ensure your child has a named waterproof coat in school every day.
